Buying baby crib bedding is something worth taking a minute to think about. There are literally thousands of patterns and colorings to pick and choose from, but there are a lot of toxic coloring in many fabrics nowadays, so take a moment and read this quick guide.

Let’s start by talking a bit about the production line. There’s plenty of cheap baby crib bedding out there, mainly because that the really cheap ones are produced in China or other Asian countries. The products coming from there, can contain basically any toxic colorings (or be made by child labour, if that’s a concern for you), and can be really unhealthy for your newborn. Be sure that you buy from a high quality product line, and if they are produced in this country you can be quite sure it’s safe. a bit more expensive, yes, but remember that you actually don’t need ten bedding sets, you can start with two. Buy more along the way when you know what you really need.

For the first half a year or so, babies haven’t developed ability cooling their bodies through sweating. Keeping the baby cool by using breathable fabric at places where fabrics contacts the baby’s skin. Nowadays you can buy baby bedding in most every color or design. It should be soft so that it wont hurt your baby’s delicate skin. A blanket is good to have in addition if you live in colder parts of the country so you can easy regulate the temperature of your little on. But remember to check that your baby isn’t to warm! It’s quite common that parents have too much on their baby instead of too little, and can be quite dangerous to get too hot!

You should choose all natural fiber, cotton, silk, Egyptian cotton, cotton velvet, wool, sateen or cotton blend satin. Let your baby sleep only on breathable natural fabrics, and no polyester!

To get some bumpers that goes around the crib is important. It will keep your baby from getting stuck between the bars, and will keep the baby safe inside. There are bumpers to fit your sheets and that are easy to wash. The should be made of cotton, and no artificial fabrics. Small babies like strong bright colours, so why not let your crib bumber be in colors that will give it something to look at when resting in the crib.

Organic bedding can be something to look into. Nowadays s there are organic beddings in all kinds of colors and designs, not just only beige or natural white that you might think of when you think of organic fabrics. Organic bedding products automatically provide relief from allergies.

The benefit for your baby is the softness and quality that only organic cotton can provide, and it is one of the top reasons people choose organic cotton for their baby’s undeveloped skin. Cotton grown in commersioal ways is poorer and weakened by the chemicals used in growing, processing and dying of the cotton. All these things break the fibre down creates a much weaker and reduced product in the end.

When it comes to organic cotton, the US produces very good organic cotton and wool, meeting all the international standards for quality and safety. And there’s an ethical point to it all. Ecologically produced cotton is fair trade, meaning that ecological cotton from Asia are in most cases produced under human conditions, with absolutely no child labour and with a fair salary to the farmers. Cotton farming is a very high factor to pollutions in the world, and organic farming turns those bad numbers on their head. Did you know that: ecological farms have 44% more birds on their lands than other cotton farmers? More than five times as many wildgrowing plants? I guess that is a message that speaks to itself.

For the newborn and small baby you shouldn’t use a pillow. Their neck is not fully developed yet, and it can also be a choking hazard for the newborn. So wait with the pillow for a couple of years.

First time mothers never forget planning and buying all the necessities for their baby nursery. It’s such a wonderful and memorable time in their lives. However, one of the most important decisions new mothers make is the baby crib bedding set and the safety concerns when choosing one. New or expectant parents should educate themselves on all matters concerning safety before even considering the purchase of nursery items.

Choosing a firm mattress with tight sheets prevents the newborn from being uncomfortable. As well, never put too many pillows, stuffed animals, toys, or similar items in the crib while the baby is tucked into bed. These are a cause for concern for babies that nibble on things a lot since it could get caught in their mouth. Blankets should never cover the baby’s head, it’s always best to place the arms on top of the blankets to prevent your baby from covering his or her head as well.

New parents should make sure they buy a standard size crib to make sure they bedding will fit properly. Most crib bedding is sized to fit a standard crib, so this will make things easy for you. The fabric should be durable, yet soft to the touch and comfortable for the baby to sleep on for 18 hours a day. Yes, babies under one year of age sleep the vast majority of the time, so a comfortable bedding set will save you from many trips to the nursery to tend to your crying baby.

Buying a bedding set is favorable to buying separates when it comes to color coordinating the nursery. Not to mention the choice is made much easier. Just remember that the baby crib bedding set will give the room a base look and feel to work with when decorating. Don’t be overwhelmed the choice of nursery decorations, and just stick to your budget while buying only the necessities if needed. You can always make additions in the coming months after your newborn is introduced to his or her new home.

Looking for a baby crib mattress? Shopping for a mattress for your little one is unlike buying one for the adults. It is a decision that may eventually affect your baby’s well-being. In most cases, a crib mattress will be your baby’s companion for at least 3 to 4 years – one the most important part of their life when they are budding and growing.

Likewise, this is the period where the baby’s bones are still soft, so it is the time where they require good firm support during their rest. Hence, it’s important to be careful when you pick your choice of baby crib mattress. We have a few tips which can help you make an informed decision when it comes to buying a baby crib mattress.

1. Remember, an expensive mattress does not necessary mean that it is the best mattress. Similarly, a cheap mattress may not be worth money as well. If unsure, you can always check consumer feedback, reviews and testimonials on how popular the mattress is by those who bought them.

2. Choices of baby crib mattress can range from inner-springs to foam types. Whichever one you choose, try to pick one that is safe and light so that you would not have any trouble shifting the mattress around.

3. If you are confused over foam and coil mattress, it needn’t worry you. Both are just as safe and suitable for your infant. The key difference between the two is that foam mattress is cheaper and less soft. Coil mattress is firmer in nature.

4. How much should you fork out for a baby crib mattress? For an average to good crib mattress, expect to shell out just below $100. You may not get the best brand ones but we think it should be adequate for your baby.

5. For quality assurance, you can verify the manufacturer details by checking whether it is a member of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association. This is like a gold plated assertion that the product has meet the quality and safety standards.

Cribs are used today for all infants up until about age 2 or 3. But this wasn’t always the case. The history of baby cribs goes back several hundred years ago.

Before babies had cribs they usually slept with their parents. Bedrooms were rare until the mid 17th century. At that time beds were present in each room and were also used as sitting areas similar to the way a daybed is used today.

Early beds were actually enclosures that had either walls or draped fabric to keep the bed and its occupants warm at night. As homes became more well-insulated and better heated bedrooms started to become popular.

The first type of cribs used were probably more like cradles. They typically were small free-standing beds that could be placed right next to the parent’s bed for easy accessibility. The baby cradle was homemade with the first ones often being made from a hollowed out log. Many cradles were made on a frame so they could rock gently.

Once the child outgrew the tiny cradle they often slept in a small bed that could fit under the parent’s bed for storage during the day. This was the beginning of the trundle bed and was considered a toddler bed. Cradles were made of many different materials but were most often made of wood that could be found easily. Cradles began to be designed and produced by woodworkers who also designed other home furnishings of the time.

The baby crib, as we know it didn’t come into common use until the 19th century. The crib was most likely designed to take the place of the cradle. As homes became larger there was enough space to use a crib that the child could sleep in for more than a year. Most cribs were constructed of wood and were often made by the husband. Cribs were often passed down through many children of the household.

During this time there were many children in a family and each one would use the crib for the first year or until the next child came along. The nursery started as a small nook located adjacent to the parent’s bedroom. Eventually the idea of the child having his or her own room came to be the standard. Wealthy families who could afford a full time nanny were able to have a separate room for the child.

As children outgrew the crib they would take a bed in the children’s bedroom, which was often shared by many children. Eventually homes were built with more bedrooms so they could accommodate more children.

Crib design through the years has shown a steady improvement of features yet the same basic shape and form have remained the same. Nowadays cribs are under stringent safety rules to ensure that children are safe from harm in their cribs. These standards are continually updated and new products are tested for safety. Parents still need to take precautions to ensure the safety of their child in the crib. A visual inspection of the crib and its hardware should be done monthly and any loose hardware should be fixed.

New parents are often lack of knowledge and experience especially when buying a baby crib bedding set that is right for their infant. It’s not easy to decide whether the crib bedding set would be perfect for the infant’s needs or not as there are wide options to choose from. Always consider the most important thing when buying, it’s the fact that not only the looks count but it should be worth your hard-earned money at least. Aside from it’s appearance, make sure that the baby crib bedding set that you will buy will offer more advantages to your baby because he or she will be using it for the first few years of his or her life.

You will find baby crib bedding sets, that often comes with baby items and necessities, available in most retails stores in your place. You can also find affordable yet high quality items in retail places such as Walmart or Sears near you. There you can decide which items are important and worth to buy that will fit your budget. Mostly, you can find the best offer that you will need for your baby in such places, at affordable prices. You can also compare items before buying and decide which of these items offer its best purpose. If you find that none of these items meet your needs and liking, you can also try checking other department stores near you. Although you may find that they offer items with prices a little bit higher than those retail places, it’s more possible for you to find items that you will prefer the most from these stores.

It is not necessary to buy expensive baby items in order to meet your baby’s needs, as long as it depends on your own preferences and reasonable to buy. Branded items are known to be more expensive than others, might as well, the most important is the quality of the items that you will get for your baby. Of course, aesthetic value will be great but not as always if it will compromise quality or even the safety of your child. Baby items that are more functional should be given more preference than those items that only gives additional decoration. Baby items such as baby crib bedding sets, cribs, mattresses come with their own importance of giving your little one’s a care so it’s best for you to consider the necessary things before buying because we all don’t want to compromise our child’s safety.

Buying a baby crib is often the first big decision you will make as a parent. Choosing a crib must be taken seriously. Safety is the most important consideration. Cribs manufactured in the United States have strict safety standards, which have been in place since 1973. These standards are updated as needed. Keep these things in mind when you buy a baby crib.

Design Safety is the number one concern with design. Be sure that the slats of the crib are no further apart than 2+3/8 inches. The head and foot ends of the crib should not contain cutouts. A baby can get caught in these cutouts and may be unable to get free. The head and foot ends are best made of either solid design or slats.

Most cribs have adjustable sides and mattress positions to make it easier to pick up the baby. While these are helpful when the child is tiny they can pose problems later on. The distance between the top rail when it is raised and the mattress when it is in its lowest position must be no more than 26 inches. Once the child can pull himself up always put the mattress in the lowest position possible.

The mattress must fit snugly into the crib frame for safety reasons. A space as small as an inch can pose a possible safety hazard for infants. Remove any plastic on the crib and mattress. Check that the hardware is tight and that no sharp edges protrude.

Check the display model for sturdiness. If you will be assembling the crib at home look at the display to ensure that you know the proper way it should work. The crib should come with the proper hardware and complete detailed assembly instructions.

Features

Here are some additional features to consider when looking to buy a baby crib.

Teething Rail – These are attachable plastic covers that can attach to the top rails of the crib sides. Teething rails can help prevent children from chewing on the wood keeping them safe while protecting the crib.

Bumper Guards – Bumper guards are padded and fit snugly against the sides of the crib. The purpose of the bumper guards are to protect the baby from hitting into the sides of the wood or metal crib as they roll. There is much discussion about the safety of bumper guards. Be sure to choose bumper guards that fit tightly with no loose material that could pose a choking or suffocation hazard. Choose Velcro fasteners to avoid loose hanging ties.

Rolling Casters – These are often quite useful particularly if you need to move the crib around from time to time. Be sure that the casters are attached securely and have a locking mechanism so that they can be locked into position to prevent rolling when the crib is stationary.

Additional Safety Information Always register your crib with the manufacturer by filling out and sending in the product warranty card. Keep the crib information including model number, manufacturer and date and place of purchase in a file along with the instruction manual. This will allow you to more easily check for product recalls.

Baby crib bedding sets are one of my cherished nursery theme aspirations. However, no nursery decorating theme supplement is worth placing our babies in danger and the experts have expressed their opinion; the less child bed clothing that is in the cot while baby is sleeping the better. There appears to be no difference of belief between the experts in this matter. Decorate your babies crib with every piece of that lavishness bed clothing set when infant is in the child carrier or playpen, but when your baby is put to bed the infant bedding set must be scaled down enough to guarantee safe sleep for child. A child is entirely dependent on the parent to defend against any item that could cause asphyxiation. Some items that are commonly added in child crib bedding sets have been shown as areas we need to handle with caution.

Child crib bedding sets are soft, durable and comfortable so you can lay your little one down in lavish luxury for night time and nap time. The banana fish 4-piece baby crib bedding sets include hot comforter, dust ruffle, crib bumpers and crib sheet. There are many banana fish 4-piece sets to choose from for both infant boys and infant girls. 4-piece crib bedding sets are available in many favourite infant and toddler colourings and themes including. Banana fish 6-piece infant crib bedding sets features diaper stacker, window valance, quilt, sheet and a bumper. The banana fish migi line of 6-piece crib bedding sets come in a great choice of conventional and modern shapes including classic boy, classic girl and splash. Banana fish also offers a 5-piece infant crib bedding set through the skip hop line. These sets include fitted sheets, reversible crib skirts and comforter.

Neutral infant crib bedding sets are also available and can be used if the sex of the infant is not identified, or if the new parents see something in this category to their liking. Being that the crib is the center point of the babies room, parents must determine the best size crib for the room, or more importantly, how big a crib the room can fit. If space is limited, maybe a crib changer combo is the better choice. This means storage of commonly used items such as diapers, clothes, toys, etc will have their place, but the changer which sits atop of the drawers is located handily. Keep in mind that as the child grows the infant nursery decor, appearance, and overall theme will likely have to vary to suit the childrens development.

Child crib bedding sets that are non-themed are therefore extremely versatile and darn virtually gender neutral. Find a set of modern baby bed clothing with colors in designs that you enjoy and place your own individual twist on it. I am anxious to find a set with a green and black comforter to test with some art deco light fixings and accessories. Modern nursery bedding just makes you wish to test all forms of new and different things. Pick up a set of inexpensive modern baby bedding and see where it takes you. Popular crib bedding is the wave of the future in the infant nursery design arena.

Consumer Reports Best Baby Products gives information about the best baby cribs based on their tests and product reviews. A baby crib is one of the most important items that new parents purchase for their child. The baby spends most of its time in the crib, particularly as a newborn.

Consumer reports on baby cribs advises that the safest cribs are those which use the least loose fitting bedding such as blankets and pillows. These items cause the most risk to babies due to the possibility of suffocation and SIDS hazard.

According to consumer reports, the best cribs are those that are most simple. The first decision is whether to get a crib with a drop side. The drop side allows for easy access to the baby but if installed incorrectly can pose a threat to the infant. Some cribs have two drop sides. To check the structure of the crib Consumer Reports suggests that you check the in-store model of the crib before making any decisions. The crib sides should lock into place and should not move down without excessive pressure applied. You should not be able to move the sides without at least ten pounds or more of pressure.

The best cribs, according to consumer reports on baby cribs, are those that have the simplest lines. When purchasing a new crib be sure that it made well and that all the slats are held tightly in place. Avoid cribs that have cutouts on the head or foot ends as these can catch tiny fingers and hands. Slats should be no further than 2 3/8 inches apart. All cribs manufactured after 1974 must adhere to these standards.

The crib mattress is important also. The mattress must fit tightly into the crib. You should not be able to put two fingers width between the mattress and the side of the crib. If you can, the mattress is too small and can pose a hazard. The mattress should not be covered in protective plastic as this can cause a possible suffocation problem. Bedding should be kept tight on the bed. Do not use a loose pillow with an infant. Pillows should be decorative only and must be removed when the child is in the crib.

Through the years new criteria continue to be added to the crib safety standards. If you are planning on using a crib that was made before 1986 be sure to check it for all possible problems. Review the site to find out if the crib was recalled for safety. Measure the slats and check all hardware for possible choking hazards. Be sure that the mattress you get will fit into the crib snugly. When in doubt it is best to purchase a new crib.

A new single-drop side crib is typically priced below $300, making it an affordable purchase. Check safety and convenience features. Cribs are now available that convert into toddler beds, daybeds and even full size beds to grow with the child. Check these as you would any crib to ensure that it is safe.

As children grow you need to ensure that they cannot climb or fall out of the crib. Most cribs have adjustable mattress positions which allow you to lower the bed as a child grows. When the child stands the top of the crib side should not be lower than his chest, with the side in the highest position. Once the child reaches this size you need to move the child from the crib to a toddler bed.

A very common safety concern when parents consider how to set up their baby crib furniture bedding is whether or not to use crib baby bumpers.

When it comes to this style of bedding for baby crib furniture, a 2005 study by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission regarding crib baby bumpers found that over 20 years, from 1985 to 2005, twenty-seven children aged one month to two years suffocated or were strangled by crib baby bumper pads or bumper pad ties. Aside from deaths, the study also found that there were a total of twenty-five injuries caused by bumpers or their ties.

What the study doesn’t make clear are the circumstances of those injuries or deaths caused by crib baby bumpers, and whether they might have been related to how the child was positioned for sleep, their general strength or whether they suffered from underlying medical conditions. Considering that twenty seven deaths over twenty years indicates one or two incidents a year, the possibility that other factors could have been involved in these cases is strong.

Most parents today now understand that there are many safety concerns regarding older baby crib furniture, such as slots that are too large and might allow the baby’s head to slip through, resulting in serious injury or death. However, when it comes to finding bedding for baby crib furniture, the safety concerns of the “professionals” sometimes seem a bit overboard. Newer baby crib furniture is manufactured with ultimate safety in mind, with slots that are now too small for a baby’s head to pass through.

The study, which analyzed three U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission databases for deaths related to crib bumper and crib-related injuries from 1985 to 2005, found that 27 children from 1 month to 2 years old died from suffocation or strangulation related to bumper pads or their ties. The study also found 25 nonfatal injuries attributed to bumpers. Crib baby bumpers also come in styles that have certain features with safety in mind as well. Most have ties that are on the outside of the crib that get tied onto the baby crib furniture post, and the only case where you wouldn’t want to use a crib baby bumper is where the child is so frail and weak that they can not even roll themselves around inside the crib. New parents have enough to worry about, and crib baby bumper safety should not be one.

There are many joys to welcoming a new baby into your home: the infectious laughter, the wide curious eyes drinking it all in; funny faces and gummy smiles; teeny toes and explorative little hands. Yes babies truly are little miracles…when they aren’t causing sleepless, howling nights, producing wretchedly foul diapers or pulling hair and poking eyes. And if America’s Funniest Home Video’s has taught us anything, they tend to execute many a frequent and powerful fist, t-ball bat or kick ball to the groin.

So why not try to eliminate all of your superfluous stress while you can by adequately preparing for the arrival of baby. The first thing you should do is order a crib. It’s important to know and understand all of the criteria for buying a crib and familiarize yourself with your own special needs. So take a minute and read through this easy to follow prep list; help to ease some of your pre-stress before the real stress begins:

The Skinny on Baby Cribs

First things first, your baby will probably be spending the majority of his or her time in the crib. Almost two thirds of their fresh little lives are spent sleeping, or at least trying to. Being a baby takes up a lot of energy. Learning and adjusting to a brand new world can make someone very sleeping so it’s important to have a safe and comfortable place to retire to.

It’s important that the slats on your crib are close enough together that your baby won’t be able to finagle his or her big, round head between them. It’s also very important not to put a crib near or next to a window, especially one with blinds or drapery. It’s possible for babies to strangle themselves with the cords on blinds or drapes, and there have been some tragic incidences where babies have pushed themselves through loose screens on windows. If the dimensions of a room prevent you from being able to avoid a crib near drapes or a window, a good way of eliminating the danger is using a clothes pin to gather up and cinch the cords at the top or cutting the cord in half, so that instead of a loop, you have two straight lines.

Finally, it’s a good idea to buy a crib that has adjustable railings so that you will be able to pick up your baby with ease. Many cribs today are made with railings that lower on both sides and even have storage drawers beneath the crib, for added convenience.

The Skinny on Safety

There are some crucial regulations that you should know before purchasing a crib; measurements and safety regulations that you should be sure to arm yourself with before you take on the daunting task of picking out a crib:

•	The space between crib slats should be absolutely no more than 2 and 3/8 inches

•	The drop sides must be, at the very least, 9 inches above the mattress support when in the lowered position

•	When in the raised position, the top of the drop side must be at least 26 inches above the mattress support at its lowest position

•	The standard crib size mattress (51 ¾ inches long by 27 ¾ inches wide) should fit snugly within the crib frame; if you can fit two fingers between the mattress and the frame than the mattress is too small and there is a chance that your baby could become dangerously stuck in this space

The Skinny on Everything Else

There is a little controversy surrounding whether or not baby bumpers (those soft pads that line the inside of a crib) are actually safe to have in a crib with your baby. They were originally considered a safety feature, preventing babies from being able to slip their heads between the rails and other dangers, however recently a growing number of organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics have deemed them unsafe, and a hazard to your child’s safety.

Also, any crib made before 1973, in other words, any crib made before a rigid set of safety standards were solidified for baby cribs, are more likely to malfunction and pose a threat to your baby. Some organizations suggest that you try to avoid second hand cribs in general as used cribs are apparently the cause of over 50 infant deaths per year.

Finally, try to avoid decorative detail on cribs. Protruding pieces can break off and create choking hazards; as well, cut out designs along the side of the crib have been known to trap babies arms and legs causing physical injury.

So there you have it; an excellent jumping point from which to begin your search for the perfect crib. Make sure you visit the American Academy of Pediatrics website for a complete list of regulations and safety tips from the experts as well as the Consumer Product Safety Commission to get the lowdown on all of the brands you have been looking into.
